Bath WI Garden – how it started

maisie the cat

In 2013 we launched a community garden in the beautiful Botantical Gardens in Royal Victoria Park. The garden is entirely made up of edible plants and flowers. The idea was and is to inspire people to plant edibles that are not only useful, but beautiful as well. We will be growing interesting varieties of popular and more unusual plants, hoping to encourage people to try new things.

We also chose to grow heritage varieties, medicinal plants and explaining what can be done with them. Early on we were judged by the RHS as part of the Bath entry to Britain in Bloom. Bath went on to win gold, and we feel very excited to have played a teeny tiny part in that.

As the Women’s Institute is a charity, we rely on volunteers to maintain the garden and fundraising and donations to keep it up.

The iron bath echoes the Bath WI logo, and the beautiful iron seat has been kindly lent to us by Iron Art.

Thank you to everyone who has joined our Garden Team! We are always delighted to welcome anyone who is interested!
