2013 Meetings

January – NO MEETING

February – Giggle and Laugh with the Bath WI

To get the WI New Year off to a very happy start we’re having a stress-busting laughter workshop that we hope will inspire us through out 2013.

March – Movie King

We’re very excited about March. Oscar and Bafta nominated Peter King, make up artist for the Hobbit, will be coming to talk to us after his return from the Oscars ceremony and hopefully clutching an award!  Even though you probably don’t know it, you’ve seen his work! He already has an Oscar for his creations in The Lord of the Rings. He’s also helped to create King Kong and the Marquis de Sade, as well as working on Thunderbirds, Little Voice, The Importance of Being Ernest, An Ideal Husband and The Avengers.

April – The Knives Are Out

The team from Robert Welch will be coming in to talk to us about this remarkable local business and the man who started it all from a bedroom in his parents house in Chipping Camden  His remarkable talent earned him an MBE and made him one of the most reconsigned names in British design.

May – No 1. Fan

The Bath Preservation Trust will be taking us through their work at No 1 Royal Crescent.  The house is currently closed for refurbishment and will open to the public in June of this year but we have been offered a sneak preview at our May meeting.   We are planning to break out from our usual meeting place and meet at The Building of Bath Museum in The Countess of Huntingdon’s Chapel on The Paragon. We’ll then take the shortish walk to the Royal Crescent for an actual look around and get to experience how all levels of society lived 200 years ago.

June – Walk and Draw Bath

Andrew Lansley will be inspiring us to get arty this month. Bring a pencil and paper or sketch book. Whatever your level, accomplished artist or complete beginner, this meeting is all about coming along and having a go. Apart from everything else, taking time to sketch is a rare and lovely chance to slow down, take a breath and look at the beautiful city around you with new eyes.
To celebrate the launch of the Bath WI Community Garden, we’ll be meeting at the Botanical Garden in Bath’s Royal Victoria Park. If you have any edible seedlings, cuttings or plants that are in need of a new home, do bring them along – all donations gratefully received.

August – Bath WI Jamboree

We’re going off-piste in August, meeting at The Paragon School in Bath: woodland fun and a craft workshop in a yurt. If you’re feeling intrepid, dig out your camping kit, round up your family and make it an overnight event.

October – Bath WI AGM & Ethiopiaid

The October meeting is our annual AGM – voting, official business and general round-up! We will also be watching a film and presentation from the charity Ethiopiaid, who raise awareness and funds for a variety of charitable organisations in Ethiopia. The film is about the work of the Fistula Hospital, which provides life-changing medical care for women who have sustained injuries in childbirth.

November – Wine Extravaganza!!

At our November meeting we welcome Angela Mount – wine expert, writer and presenter as well as head buyer for YourFavouriteWines and chief judge of Bath and Bristol Good Food and Drink. Angela is also the wine columnist for Bath Magazine and Flavour Magazine. All this and a mother of three! Her taste buds were famously insured for £10 million when she worked for Somerfield. She aims to make quality wine accessible while debunking many wine myths with her down to earth approach.

Can someone tell me how to get in touch with someone on the committee? We have a Bath WI promotional offer for a production of Calendar Girls In Bradford on Avon.

    Many thanks
