Sally is an amateur historian and private tour guide for Bath who brings her love of its heritage to life in this talk about the Cleveland Pools, the 200 yr-old Georgian swimming pool in Bathwick which has just been dealt a massive blow as the Heritage Lottery Fund rejected funding for the pools
Sally swam at the Pools herself as a child in the 1960s and remembers the excitement she felt being outdoors in such a thriving place. She also remembers the freezing cold water!, but this is about to change: the Pools will be heated for the first time in their history. In fact the 14yr campaign should not only result in bringing the Cleveland Pools back to their former glory for swimming but will also be geared to heritage visitors, low-key events and community uses all year round.
Bath ‘born and bred’ Sally has been working voluntarily for the Cleveland Pools Trust since May 2012 and, as the marketing trustee, continues with both talks and tours to spread the word about this unique heritage site. Her own private tour guiding involves showing visitors the secrets of the city which other tour guides might miss.
Sally loves meeting new people, something she did continuously for ten years whilst running a singles dinner club. After initiating ten weddings, and umpteen other pairings, she stepped down when her grandparents died in 2010 and, upon clearing their home, discovered numerous books on Bath. This lit the spark for tour guiding.
