The Chief Executive Officer of Banes Carers’ Centre, Sonia Hutchison, was our annual charity speaker for 2017. David Ford, Manager also came along to help promote this worthwhile charity.
Bath WI like to promote local charities and learn about their role in the community. Sonia gave us a thought provoking evening. She started with her own story, before moving onto the history of the Carers’ Centre. It became known in it’s present format in 2010 and was originally based just in Radstock. The Banes Centre was opened in 2014 having struggled to find premises with parking, which was a must and finally achieved! Sonia highlighted the Bath Carers’ Centre garden, which was originally on display at the Hampton Court Flower Show, and how BBC’s ‘One Show’ donated it to the Centre.
The Banes Carers’ Centre supports 4000 carers including 500 young carers. They are constantly having to fund raise, though were delighted to recently receive Big Lottery funding. They welcome volunteers, be it to help transport carers, provide a listening ear and within the Bath Royal Hospital, to promote the work of the Centre, for example.
Below is the web address and Sonia and David encourage us all to get in touch should any of us need more information, be it as a carer, sign-posting someone who needs support or, as a prospective volunteer. Thank you very much to both Sonia and David for giving their time to highlight the work of such a valuable local charity.
