It was our AGM last night and we decided to combine the business side of things with something crafty following the fun that was had last year with our pumpkin carving. Our lovely Sue Deere brought along badge making kits she’d put together and we all got stitching while we listened. There were some fantastic flowers made and we look forward to seeing them all at the next meeting.
Jess gave her Presidential address and a round up of what we’ve been up to over the past year. Although we’re only five years old as a WI we seem to be extremely busy! There was a summary of the amazing speakers we’ve had, the garden party in the summer, the visit from Farrington Gurney WI, the brilliant book club, the wonderful crafty nights out and in, the fun the gardening gang have had and the awards they have won, the campaigns we have supported, the food bank collections and the Christmas pamper hamper for the Women’s Refuge, the centenary spinney in Widcombe, the growing collection of quilts for the RUH neonatal intensive care unit, our strong online presence and all the events our members have attended. Our darts captain Rose was presented with a certificate celebrating our reaching the final of the Avon Federation Darts competition.
Maureen Crew, our WI adviser, came to ensure that we elected our President for next year in the proper fashion. Jess M was duly appointed, which is fantastic as she has done such a brilliant job for the last two years. Maureen is a very special person for us as she also helped set up our WI five years ago – her first WI as a new adviser. It was lovely to welcome her to our meeting and fantastic to hear her comment that we were ‘a good example of how a WI should be run’.
A huge thank you to all of the committee for all of their work and an even bigger thank you to all the members of the Bath WI for making it the fabulous group that it is! Here’s to another year of fun!
