Wow! Our garden party to celebrate the centenary of the WI in Britain was quite simply…wonderful! The sun shone, our members shone, the guests shone, the yarn bombing met guests with a riot of colour at the gate and led them to the party, the food was fantastic (and there was lots), the music from Nick’s Pramophone wafted on the Summer air…it was glorious! A huge thank you to everyone!

Our members have been knitting, crocheting, sewing and pompom making for weeks and we met yesterday morning at 11.00 (the hottest day in 9 years, apparently) to create a yarn bomb trail leading our guests from the top gate, via meeters and greeters with glasses of prosecco, to our beautiful edible garden and the party.

It wasn’t only the tourists curious to see what we were up to…

By 7.30pm the garden looked perfect!

Our first member arrived – nobody makes scones quite as well as our Sheila does!

The professional photographer had Kitty and Jess pose ‘in’ the bath – to wonderful effect!

It was lovely to see the costumes members and guests had chosen – everybody looked amazing!

Naturally there was cake, and scones and smoked salmon sandwiches and even WI cheese straws!

It was soon time for speeches from Jess our President, Tom from the Botanical Gardens and Kitty our garden guru.

Last year we loved Nick’s Pramophone so much, we were so happy he agreed to come back again.

Another big hit was the Mayor of Bath, Will Sandry, who charmed us all!

As ever, the place to be at a Bath WI garden party is the Iron Art bench!
