486-166We’ve been invited for a fun croquet session at the Bath Croquet club on the Rec, so mallets at the ready! There will be a short talk about the game and then the opportunity to play. All equipment will be provided but please wear flat-soled shoes. Please note that the meeting will start at 7.15 so we can all play before it gets dark! A welcome drink and nibbles will be provided.
The first croquet tournament in Bath was held on 19th September 1896. Eight Lawns (courts in those days) were laid out on the Lansdown Cricket Ground in Combe Park Road. The Tournament moved to the New Recreation Ground in 1899, and continued until 1948. The Bath Croquet Club was re-formed in 1976.
It now plays on four full-sized lawns on Bath Recreation Ground and has around 90 members of all ages. It is a friendly club and in addition to running competitions, has a number of social events throughout the year. It is well equipped with huts for every lawn, and a ‘kitchen hut’. Newcomers, whether beginners or not, are always welcome. The Club has qualified coaches and is keen to give tuition to those wishing to try their hand at the game. Mallets can be borrowed from the club.
Please remember that the meeting is NOT at Bathwick St Mary’s as usual but at the  Bath Croquet Club at the Recreation Ground (just off Great Pulteney Street). The meeting will start at the earlier time of 7.15.
